Thanksgiving Apple Pie - Recipe
This recipe for Thanksgiving Apple Pie brings back memories of a Connecticut Thanksgiving spent with friends.
This is my friend’s apple pie recipe. Quantities for three pie sizes are included.
Ingredients for 8 inch (9 inch) (10 inch) pie
- 1/2 cup sugar (3/4 cup) (1 cup)
- 3 tbspns self raising flour (1/4 cup) (1/3 cup)
- 1/4 tspn nutmeg (1/2 tspn) (1 tspn)
- 1/4 tspn cinnamon (1/2 tspn) (1 tspn)
- 5 cups tart apples (6 cups) (8 cups)
- 1tbspn butter or margarine (2 tbspns) (3 tbspns)
- Prepared 8 inch pie crust (9 inch) (10 inch)
Method
Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. Combine sugar, flour, nutmeg and cinnamon. Peel, quarter, pare and slice the apples. Mix with the dry mixture. Place in the pastry lined pan. Dot with butter. Cover with top crust. Cut vents. Seal and flute or decorate the pastry.
Cover edge with 2-3 inch strip of aluminium foil to prevent excessive browning. Remove foil for last 15 minutes of baking. Bake 40-50 minutes or until crusts are brown and juice begins to buble through slits in crust.
Thanksgiving Apple Pie Tips
- Brush pastry lightly with milk before cooking. This help the crust to brown.
- Sprinkle finished thanksgiving applie pie with sugar.
