You know your child best, but here are a few broad guidelines for planning tea parties for babies and one year olds.

Parties for very small children are as much for the parents as for the child, so have some fun, but don’t go overboard.

Who To Invite

  • Decide if you want to keep it to family and friends.
  • If you invite small friends keep it to a manageable number - maybe three or four.

Helpers & Adults Attending

  • Keep adults accompanying child guests in mind when catering.
  • Parents of tiny guests need to stay for the full duration of the party

Things To Consider

  • Ask parents to bring trainer cups, if needed.
  • Decide whether you want your older school age children to help and be involved
  • Decide whether you’ll have a separate family celebration
  • Choose a time when the guest of honor is not going to be asleep, if possible

Keep it short - maybe an hour or two at the most

  • Presents should be age and developmentally appropriate, but the child will probably enjoy the wrapping paper just as much
  • Blowing out the candles with a one year old can be fun.
  • Take some photos or video to record the occasion
  • Take care with balloons with very young children, as the loud bang may frighten them
  • There is no need for party favors for guests.
