Tea Party Planning - Babies & One Year Olds
Tea parties need to take into account the age group and developmental level of the children.
You know your child best, but here are a few broad guidelines for planning tea parties for babies and one year olds.
Babies & One Year Olds

Parties for very small children are as much for the parents as for the child, so have some fun, but don’t go overboard.
Who To Invite
- Decide if you want to keep it to family and friends.
- If you invite small friends keep it to a manageable number - maybe three or four.
Helpers & Adults Attending
- Keep adults accompanying child guests in mind when catering.
- Parents of tiny guests need to stay for the full duration of the party
Things To Consider
- Ask parents to bring trainer cups, if needed.
- Decide whether you want your older school age children to help and be involved
- Decide whether you’ll have a separate family celebration
- Choose a time when the guest of honor is not going to be asleep, if possible
Keep it short - maybe an hour or two at the most
- Presents should be age and developmentally appropriate, but the child will probably enjoy the wrapping paper just as much
- Blowing out the candles with a one year old can be fun.
- Take some photos or video to record the occasion
- Take care with balloons with very young children, as the loud bang may frighten them
- There is no need for party favors for guests.
