Tablecloth
Casual or a touch more formal? The pure white damask tablecloth or a no nonsense one? Maybe no tablecloth at all? It all depends on the mood and the occasion.

Vase or Flower Centerpiece

One thing that always adds to a Summer Table is flowers. Grab a bunch from the florist or local store. It’s better still if you have some of your own in the garden. There’s a real joy to having fresh flowers from your very own garden.

Now what to do with them? How to display them? Of course, the obvious thing is to put them in a vase. However, don’t discount making a very quick arrangement with the help of a block of florist’s foam.

Flower Centerpiece Basics
A centrepiece can set the scene on your Summer Table.

  • Keep it low so it is a highlight, not a hindrance to conversation.
  • Look for a shallow container.
  • A basket, dish, bowl, pot or even a coloured cardboard container work well.

Use a Tureen For Your Centerpiece Container

For special occasions, you could use a special tureen that is part of your dinner setting. I really like this idea, especially for more formal or special occasions, when you want to break out the fine dinnerware.

  • Line the tureen with plastic so there is no staining from your arrangement
  • Alternatively, put a shallow jar or waterproof container in the tureen. Fill it with fresh flowers
  • Arrange the flowers to hide the florist’s foam or waterproof container

Let’s Make a Quick Flower Table Centerpiece
Making a centerpiece can take five minutes or five hours, depending on the occasion. It doesn’t have to be a lot of work. It can also be done inexpensively. And you’ll be able to enjoy the flowers, long after the party is over.
