Tea Hints - Steam Facial & Skincare
For a skin purifying steam facial
- Place freshly made steaming tea carefully into a heatproof bowl
- Add mint and lemon rind if you like
- Sit with your head over the bowl for approx 10 minutes
- Use a large towel to cover your head and the bowl, to retain the steam
- A steam facial helps to cleanse the pores
- Take the usual safety precautions with hot water
For a herbal tea steam facial, follow the same steps as above, but use your choice of herbal tea infusion. Herbs often used in steam facials may include chamomile, yarrow, nettle, fennel or comfrey.
For an excellent lotion for greasy skins, use three tablespoons of (tea) leaves for 500 millilitres of mineral water. Some people even recommend adding a few drops of lemon juice.
The last skin hint above is from Annie Perrier-Robert in Book of Tea. Her tip makes sense, as lemon acts as an astringent. I own this book and highly recommend it.
It is beautifully presented and chock full of interesting information and colour photos, ranging from the history of tea, tea ceremonies, tea around the world, types of tea, tea traditions and even a few recipes.
I can also recommend the companion title in the same series, which I also own. It is entitled not surprisingly, Book of Coffee by Anne Vantal.
