Flower Centerpiece Color Tips

Things To Consider

  • White - A nusery man once advised me, as long as you add white flowers to your centerpiece or arrangement, it ties all the colors together. Try this out. It really does work. It’s a great tip for planning a flower garden or window boxes too.
  • Cream- If you’re not keen on white flowers, cream flowers work too. These soften brighter colors while unifying the different colors.
  • Green
  • - You’ll need green too. Even new stems on small bushes are good for this, if you don’t have ferns or other lighter plants.

  • Color Mix - Don’t worry too much about colours for your flower centerpiece, unless you want to, or if you’re having a color theme e.g. a Lilac Party.

If You Want To Play With Colors

  • One Colour Flowers - Choose one colour such as blue, and hues of that colour ranging from soft and pale to bright and bold. Tie it all together with a filler like Baby’s Breath or some other white flowers.
  • One Type of Flower - An arrangement of various colors of the same flower, such as the Pansies in the picture above can be very effective.
  • Mixed Color Flowers - Mixed colours can work well, but depending on the arrangement, it’s probably best to stick to 3 colours and hues of those colours. Don’t forget to include white or cream to tie the colors together.
  • Flower Color Hues & Contrasts - If you want to experiment with contrasting and complementary colours, a colour wheel can give you some good starting points for color schemes.
  • Do you have it right? - The best tool you have is your EYES. Experiment until you are happy that your flower arrangement is pleasing to the eye. Also check that the flower arrangement or flower centerpiece suits your vase, setting and occasion.
