Easter Nest Cupcakes Recipe
One of my fondest memories as a child was making a big Easter nest so that the Easter Bunny could nap when he visited. These Easter nest cupcakes are a great activity for the kids at Easter time.
Ingredients
- 12 chocolate cupcakes
- 3-4 chocolate flake bars
- 36 mini candy Easter eggs
Method
- Break the chocolate bars into flakes, keeping some long pieces
- Spread each cupcake with chocolate icing or buttercream
- Cover the tops completely
- Press the smaller chocolate flakes into the icing before it sets
- Arrange long flakes randomly as for the twigs of a nest
- Place 3 mini Easter eggs on the top of each Easter nest cupcake.
- Top with a little yellow chick or easter bunny decoration (optional).
Tips
- The icing holds the chocolate flakes in place, so don’t pile the nests too high.
- Use a larger cupcake case or Easter collar, to prevent the decorations spilling over.
Variations
- The mini candy Easter eggs provide a colour contrast to the chocolate. You can use foil wrapped or chocolate min Easter eggs.
- Substitute licorice or chocolate sticks for the flaked chocolate bar pieces
- Substitute icecream for the cupcake. Place the icecream in the cupcake case, cover with plastic wrap and freeze until ready to decorate and serve.
