Come To Tea by Stephanie Dunnewind is a children’s book about “fun tea party themes, recipes, crafts, games, etiquette and more.”

Come To Tea - The Book In a Nutshell
This colorful non fiction book is written for young girls, about 7-11 years old. They can read it themselves or read it with an adult. Tea party themes include classic, princess, mad hatter’s, teddy bears’ picnic, mothers and daughters, garden, literary and pyjama breakfast tea party.

Some of these tea parties and activities can just as easily be used for boys, or younger children.

Features of Come To Tea
Each tea party covers 8-10 pages with illustrated theme ideas such as invitations, decorations, recipes, crafts, games, activities and party favors. There are hostess tips, tips on etiquette and a note to parents.

Tall cardboard hat invitations, mismatched china, and hat placecards set the scene for the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party. Refreshments include Tea Lemonade, Cheshire Cat Smiles, White Rabbit’s Nibble Plattter and the Queen’s Stolen Tarts.

Craft time sees children making crazy hats. For games there are “wacky tasks”, and a version of musical chairs called “sitting at the Mad Hatter’s Table.”

The Moms and Daughters Tea Party and the Garden Tea Party have a touch of elegance. Blossom ice cubes made with edible flowers, chocolate dipped strawberries and paper doily invitations were some of my favorites.

The ingenuity of making a butterfly using white coffee filters, watercolors and a garden peg is very effective. There are lots of great ideas here.

Verdict
The ideas, recipes and activities in Come To Tea are clearly presented with color illustrations throughout. Even more importantly, they are “do-able”.

This is a fun, but practical book, with lots of ideas for tea parties. Ideas can be mixed and matched or modified to suit the situation or age group.
