Clothesline Doughnut Chomp - Kids Tea Party
Have lots of children’s tea party game fun with the Clothesline Doughnuts Chomp game. This non competitive game results in lots of tea party game fun and laughter.
Similar to the apples on the line game, this doughnut version is much easier to set up, and easier for the children to play too.
The Game
Doughnuts are tied onto lengths of string hanging down from a line of horizontal string. Each child stands under a doughnut with their hands behind their back (optional). They cannot use their hands or touch someone else’s doughnut.
On your call of “1-2-3 Chomp!” each child tries to take a chomp or nibble (size is irrelevant) out of the doughnut) as it is not a race. When they have taken a few chomps (or nibbles) take down the doughnut for them, and they can finish it if they like.
If you only have a small space, the children can take turns, one group at a time. Space the children apart so they don’t bump into each other while trying to manouevre themselves to eat the doughnut.
Setting Up
Attach a length of string outdoors securely between two posts or upright structures, simulating a clothesline. Choose a height suitable for the age and size of the children playing the game. The length of the clothesline depends on your situation and how many children you have attending your tea party.
From the length of horizontal string, tie another piece of string, long enough to hang down to about in line with the children’s face or mouth. You may need to adjust this slightly to suit individual children. Thread the string through the doughnut and tie it. Repeat for other doughnuts.
Plain doughnuts are less messy, but older children may like to ice and decorate their own doughnut before you hang them up - great for a cooking themed tea party.
Safety & Hygiene Cautions
Do not tie the children’s hands behind their back. You may wish to avoid hands behind the back altogether to allow better balance. This is not a race, but more a fun way of “tackling” a doughnut. Children do not need to finish the doughnut.
You will be handling each doughnut to thread the string through, and again when taking it down for the child and unthreading it. Wearing gloves for hygiene is a good idea.
Observe common sense safety and hygiene precautions, and have the doughnut at an appropriate height for the child. How you run this game will depend on the age and developmental level of the children, and your situation. Use your own discretion.
