Baked Marsala Pears - Recipe
Baked Marsala Pears is a rich and yummy warm dessert. Serve one baked pear to each guest. Top with whipped cream and grated or shaved chocolate.
Ingredients
- 1- 2 pears per person
- marsala (or red wine)
- water
- 1 tbspn sugar per pound (approx 1/2 kilo) of pears
- cornflour (optional)
- cream
- chocolate garnish
Method
Place the whole pears (with stalks) into a casserole dish. Combine equal quantities of marsala and water - enough to half fill the casserole dish. Add the sugar to the liquid before gently pouring the liquid over the pears.
Cover the casserole dish, and bake at a low temperature (approx 310 degrees F) for approx 1 1/2 hours. Remove the lid. Cook for a further 30 minutes. When the marsala pears are soft, remove them from the oven. You can remove the skins or leave them on. Leave the syrup liquid a little longer to reduce and thicken.
Tips
- Add cornflour or other thickening agent, to reduce the syrup, if required. Remember to disssolve cornflour in cold water before adding to prevent lumps.
- The Baked Marsala Pears are even nicer if made the day before and reheated. At the very latest, make them in the early morning for the same evening.
Variations
- Serve with creme fraiche or mascarpone
- Use red wine instead of marsala
